Moto Giro - Italia 2018

I thought I would drop you a line, about me and my 1929 Scout 101 (750cc) taking my rightful place, in the Moto Giro Italia.
It was a 1200 kilometre open road time trial over 6 days. It takes place every year. It started in Bologna, and ended there after visiting two other cities including Rimini.
It was a gruelling race over mountains, completely broken down roads, through crowded towns and world famous race tracks.
The scout broke the seat, had a cylinder head gasket leak, wrecked brakes; and still ended up getting runners up prize from the Director of the Ducati Museum. It was applauded by all the participants, for the oldest bike to complete the race, where the others were post 1950 motorcycles. There were times I was racing at 100 km/hr. The pink tank on the rack is my spare fuel. It made a nearly 70 year old motorcyclist very proud. Out of about 145 bikes 25 did not make it. Wherever we stopped, the crowds gathered around the scout, took photographs and discussed the bike in detail in Italian; and ignored the rest.

Next year the race starts in Rome; and I am thinking of taking my 1938 Indian 4.
